Jeff Bezos' keynote yesterday at Web 2.0 Expo included some interesting numbers on Amazon's Web Services: its storage service S3 now stores over 5 billion objects (up from 800 million last year), with ability to process more than 16 thousand requests per second. That's quite an achievement for Amazon's recently launched platform.
While Amazon's "pay per drink" pricing on its popular Web Services boasts many success stories including Powerset (Powerset's CEO Barney Pell is a big fan of Amazon's EC2 and S3) , it remains to be seen how it will impact Amazon's financial results over the long term. In the meantime, more start-ups are using Amazon's Web Services including 37signals, SmugMug and AdaptiveBlue.
